Do's & Don'ts for at home beauty care

Ok let's talk about your at home beauty routine during this quarantine time!

It can be super difficult during this time to not want to do something yourself.

DO NOT do your own hair color or cutting at home! DO NOT do your own acrylic nails at home! DO NOT change your skin routine!

Whatever you do please do not do anything at home if you are not a trained professional!

You could seriously harm your hair, skin or nails by doing so.

Here are a few DON'TS during quarantine:

1) No using Petroleum products

Pretty commonly used in todays shampoos and conditioners, skin moisturizers and more. Unfortunately, its as bad for your hair as it is popular. Petroleum will clog your pores & hair follicles. It'll suffocate your skin and scalp. It is also extremely difficult to fully clean out of your hair or off your skin. The scrubbing alone, to get petroleum completely off, can cause a negative reaction to your skin & scalp and set you back further in your hair & skin journey.

2)Don't Touch

Over touching your skin and hair can strip the natural oils needed for healthiness. You can also add unwanted bacterias & dirt. We all know you shouldn't over wash your hair, so keep it as clean as possible by not over touching it. Same goes for your skin, once you've cleaned it don't keep touching it and making it dirty again.

3) Avoid Heat

Taking hot showers can be super relaxing but it's also bad for your skin and hair. The heat can upset your natural moisture balance. It can also strip oils and proteins off your skin and out of your hair. Which eventually can result in redness, dryness and even itching.

It is ok to let you hair just be during this time. It is probably the healthiest choice for you hair right now. Let it air dry, wear it down and natural, avoid heat and rock your mane! Keep up with your skin routine, as it is. Now is not the time to change things up. You already have new environmental changes that can cause reactions. Changing your skin routine can make things worse! Continue to cleanse, tone and moisturize. Remember, a Little goes a long way!

Ok, Ok...the above meme is hilarious and scary all in the same. No one wants to lose their lashes, have ridiculously grown out nails or deal with a unibrow and massive root grow out!

But, this is our current reality. We have to be ok with it right now. Stress less!

Here are some DO's that will set you up for the best success when returning to the salon post COVID-19!

1)Stay Hydrated

Water is super important during this time. Staying hydrated is a key to healthy hair, skin and nails. Make sure you are drinking at least 8 cups of water a day. If water isn't your favorite, you are like me, add some fruit to flavor your water!

2)Let you hair, skin and nails breathe

It is ok to do the minimal. Cleanse you hair, cleanse your skin and cleanse your nails. Leave them bare. Let you hair air dry and wear it naturally as much as possible. Clean your nails off and leave them bare. Don't use makeup and let your skin breathe. I hair styling? No nail polish? No makeup? What are we cavemen & cavewomen? Well...right now yes! Trust me, your body will thank you later for allowing some natural time to happen.

3)Take your Vitamins

Vitamins play a key role in your overall health as well as the health of your hair, skin and nails. Make sure your vitamins include vitamins A, C, and E, or Coenzyme Q10, as well as biotin. These are all important vitamins for your hair, skin and nails.
